Who Is I

I'm a honky white guy living in the USA who adores, simply adores Indian food. I have been cooking Indian for a number of years, but it wasn't until the past two years that things settled in, and it makes sense, most of the time. For a few years before, I was merely following rote procedures in cookbooks, getting mediocre results.

But now, I'm cooking food fit for a king. Well, most of the time. Once in a while I still cook a dog or two.

I am mostly vegetarian. It's not a religious thing for me, and I do occasionally gulp down fish.

I have a huge stack of Indian cookbooks, and fortunately live in an area with a very large Indian population, so I have good access to ingredients. And after frequent trips to a few different markets, I now have friendly interactions with the store owners.

Though I do not limit myself to a particular region, I am very fond of the South Indian recipes. I love to cook/eat sambars and rasams, as well as kootus and poriyals. I also make a wide variety of dals, with toor dal at the head of my list, followed by channa dal, and the rest of the gang of lentils.

I'm about to venture into something other than rice, as in breads and fried accompaniments to my meals. I tried dal dosai last week. Wow, it took so long to prepare! I think I might have better luck with chapati. Of course, I can always buy pre-made naan bread at the market.

This blog is mostly a networking tool so I can interact with others regarding this most delicious food.
